PhotoID - Passport, Visa & ID Photos

Introduction

PhotoID ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our PhotoID mobile application (the "App").

Important: PhotoID processes photos using AI technology to ensure compliance with official requirements. During processing, photos are sent to OpenAI's servers for analysis and stored for up to 30 days according to OpenAI's data retention policy. PhotoID also offers optional background removal using Replicate's cjwbw/rembg technology. When you use this feature, your photos are sent to Replicate's servers for processing and are subject to Replicate's privacy policy. Photos are securely transmitted to OpenAI's servers for automated analysis under strict confidentiality. The data is not used to identify users or train models and is automatically deleted within 30 days. Photos processed by Replicate are used only for background removal and are automatically deleted within about one hour; they are never used for any other purpose. Background removal is optional and only used if you select this feature.

Biometric and Face Data

What We Collect

When you choose a photo for processing, the App temporarily processes the image of your face and may derive non-identifying measurements needed for ID photo compliance (for example, head size ratio, eye line position, background color checks). We do not create or store biometric identifiers or face templates that could be used to uniquely identify you across services.

How We Use Face Data

To analyze framing and crop the image to official ID photo dimensions
To check compliance (head size, eye height, background)
To optionally remove or normalize the background (if you select this feature)
To generate a print-ready, compliant output image for you to save

Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell face data and we do not use it for advertising. Face images and the limited measurements described above are shared only with our processors strictly to provide the service: OpenAI (for analysis) and Replicate (for optional background removal). They process the data on our behalf under their terms and privacy policies.

Storage Location

Photos you submit for processing are transmitted to OpenAI and, if selected, Replicate, and are stored on their servers in the regions where they operate (for example, the United States and/or other regions). See their privacy policies for details.

Retention

According to OpenAI's data retention policy, photos processed by OpenAI are stored for up to 30 days before automatic deletion. For Replicate background removal run via API, input parameters, outputs, output files, and logs are automatically removed after approximately 1 hour by default (see Replicate's data retention documentation). We do not store copies of your photos on our own servers. Output files you save remain on your device until you delete them.

Data Collection and Processing

Photo Processing

When you use PhotoID to process photos, your images are temporarily sent to OpenAI's servers for AI-powered analysis and compliance checking. For background removal, your photos are also sent to Replicate's cjwbw/rembg API. According to OpenAI's data retention policy, these photos are stored on their servers for up to 30 days before being automatically deleted. Replicate's data retention and privacy policies apply for background removal processing. Background removal is optional and only used if you select this feature.

Data We Don't Collect

PhotoID does not collect or store:

Personal identification information (name, email, phone number)
Device location data
Contact information
Social media account information
Long-term storage of your photos

Data Storage

Local Storage

The app stores the following information locally on your device:

App preferences and settings
Processed photos (saved when you download them)
Analyzed photo previews (temporarily for review before download)
Recently used country formats

This local data is automatically deleted when you uninstall the app.

Cloud Processing

Photos are processed through OpenAI's secure servers for AI analysis and through Replicate's servers for background removal. According to OpenAI's data retention policy, these photos are stored on OpenAI's servers for up to 30 days before being automatically deleted. Replicate's data retention and privacy policies also apply for background removal. Background removal is optional and only used if you select this feature.

PhotoID requests the following permissions:

Camera Access

Required to take photos for ID processing. Photos are sent to OpenAI's servers for AI analysis and compliance checking.

Photo Library Access

Required to select existing photos from your gallery and save processed, print-ready results to your device.

Replicate (Background Removal)

We use Replicate's cjwbw/rembg API for AI-powered background removal. Photos processed with this feature are sent to Replicate's servers and are subject to Replicate's privacy policy: https://replicate.com/privacy. For API-based predictions, Replicate automatically removes input parameters, outputs, output files, and logs after approximately 1 hour by default; see https://replicate.com/docs/topics/predictions/data-retention. Photos are processed only for background removal and are automatically deleted within about one hour; they are never used for any other purpose. Background removal is optional and only used if you select this feature.

App Store

Subscription and billing data is handled by Apple's App Store according to Apple's Privacy Policy. We do not have access to your payment information.

Crash Reporting

We may collect anonymous crash reports to improve app stability. These reports contain no personal information.

Data Security

We implement appropriate security measures to protect your data:

Photos are transmitted to OpenAI using secure, encrypted connections
Photos are stored on OpenAI's servers for up to 30 days before automatic deletion
No personal identification data is collected or stored
Local app data is protected by your device's built-in security features
You can delete all local data by uninstalling the app

Terms of Use Summary

License

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the App without our prior written consent.

Acceptable Use

Do not create fraudulent identification documents
Do not process photos of others without their consent
Do not attempt to reverse engineer or hack the App
Do not use the App for unauthorized commercial purposes
Comply with applicable laws and regulations

User Responsibilities

Ensure your device meets system requirements
Maintain security of your device
Verify final photos meet your specific authority requirements
Only process photos you have the right to use

Subscriptions and Billing

PhotoID offers an auto-renewable subscription: PhotoID Pro Weekly (1 week). You can preview and process photos up to download stage before subscribing; a subscription is required to download.

Subscriptions are billed via the Apple App Store and subject to Apple's terms. Payment is charged to your iTunes Account at purchase confirmation. Subscriptions auto-renew unless turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account may be charged within 24 hours prior to renewal.

Localized prices (and price per unit, where applicable) are shown clearly in the App Store purchase flow and on the in-app paywall before purchase. You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your App Store Account Settings. Refunds are handled by Apple.

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED.

Merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose
Accuracy of processing results or acceptance by authorities
Uninterrupted or error-free operation

Limitation of Liability

We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
Including rejection of photos, travel delays, lost data/photos, or business interruption

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims arising from your use of the App or violation of these terms.

Termination

We may suspend or terminate access without prior notice for violations. You may stop using the App at any time by deleting it.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction where our company is registered, without regard to conflict of law provisions.

Your Rights

Since we don't collect personal data, you have complete control:

All your data remains on your device
You can delete all app data by deleting the app
You can clear app data through your device settings
No data deletion requests are needed since we have no data to delete

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy in the app and updating the "Last updated" date.
